HughesNet Professional Installation

Once you place your order for any HughesNet Internet service, your information will be passed on to a specially trained satellite installation expert in your area. The installer will contact you to set up an appointment and will get you up and running before you know it.

As much as we’d like to accommodate the do-it-yourselfers out there, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires that all two-way satellite systems be installed by trained professionals. You can trust HughesNet to contract with only the best, most qualified installers available so the job is done to your satisfaction.

Standard installation services

On the day of your installation appointment, your trained and experienced installer will show up with all the equipment needed to get your high-speed Internet connection going as quickly as possible. We do all the work so you can sit back and relax, confident that the job will be done right.

Our standard installation services include everything a typical residential or business customer needs to get going. Here’s a sample of the services included in the installation:
  • Perform all mountings and installation according to FCC regulations to ensure proper function and lack of interference with other communications
  • Mount .74m satellite dish on a one-story surface or other approved structure using standard wall-mount or roof-mount brackets
  • Install a dual coaxial cable jack in the room where the HughesNet satellite Internet system will be installed
  • Run up to 100 feet of RG-6 coaxial cables from the dish, into the house through a single point of entry, and to the coaxial cable jack
  • Install the proper equipment to safely ground the entire system
  • Install the HughesNet satellite modem and connect it to one PC
  • Test and verify the satellite signal
  • Initialize your HughesNet account and verify Internet connectivity

Customers on our Elite or ElitePlus service plans get additional installation services:
  • Satellite antenna installed will be a .98m dish instead of a .74m dish
  • Dish can be mounted on a pole mount or non-penetrating roof mount at no additional charge
  • Installation of up to 50 additional feet of RG-6 coaxial cable (total 150 feet) if necessary
  • Grounding will be run from a ground block to an NEC approved bonding point
  • System will be weather sealed with appropriate cable bushing

Non-standard installation services

Our standard installation services should be enough to get almost all residential and business customers going on the same day as installation. Occasionally, special services are required. Some of these cannot be provided by the HughesNet installers and some will be provided at the installer’s discretion, usually for a small additional fee.

Here are some examples of non-standard installation services that will usually be available at additional cost:
  • RG-6 coaxial cable beyond the standard lengths of 100 feet (residential) or 150 feet (commercial): $0.50/ft
  • Ground wire in excess of 35 feet: $1.00/ft (includes labor)
  • .74m Antenna Pole Mount made of Schedule 40 pipe, dish mounted at least 5 feet above ground, pole mount sunk in concrete 36-42 inches, including up to 25 feet of soft ground trenching: $125 for residential customers, free for business customers. Ask your installer for a quote if you require a taller pole mount
  • Cable trenching beyond 25 feet in soft ground: $2.00/ft including backfill (cable trenching in concrete or asphalt will have to be quoted per project)
  • 1/2-inch PVC Conduit: $1.00/ft
  • Interior wall cable runs: $55 per wall

Other non-standard installation services that may be available depending on the installer include:
  • Installation of DIRECTV receivers and cables. Although HughesNet and DIRECTV have a marketing relationship, the satellite services they each offer are unique and an installer for one may not be qualified to install the other
  • Repair and/or removal of previously mounted satellite equipment – this service usually requires a Waiver of Liability
  • Networking multiple computers onto a single HughesNet connection

Many other non-standard installation services such as custom moldings or non-penetrating mounts may be available. Ask your installer what additional installation services are available.

Onsite Maintenance Service (Elite and ElitePlus customers only)

HughesNet recognizes that a commercial operation has stricter requirements for network connectivity than a home user. Loss of Internet connection for a few hours is an inconvenience for a home user but can be a serious financial setback for a business. As a result, our business class plans include onsite corrective maintenance to keep your connection humming.

When you report problem to HughesNet Customer Care, a maintenance ticket will be passed on to authorized field service personnel who will be dispatched in one or two business days depending on the service plan. For the purpose of this calculation, any call received outside the normal response window (8 am to 1 pm local time, Monday through Friday except for holidays) will be considered to be received on the next business day.

This service includes:
  • Diagnostics to pinpoint the source of the problem
  • If the problem is a malfunctioning piece of HughesNet equipment and the equipment can reasonably be replaced in the field, a replacement will be issued and the malfunctioning equipment will be taken away
  • A misaligned antenna will be reoriented to provide proper communication
  • Interconnecting cables will be repaired or replaced as needed
  • System will be reinitialized and user account recommissioned
  • Signal strength and Internet connectivity will be verified
  • When the problem is solved, a service report will be completed and HughesNet Customer Care will be informed

This service will take care of most problems experienced in the normal use of our service and equipment. The maintenance services plan does not cover the following services:
  • Repair of damage caused by lightning, accident, catastrophe
  • Repair of damage caused by negligence of the reseller or the customer
  • Repair of damage caused by non-HughesNet equipment including, but not limited to, air conditioners, data communication equipment, or faulty electrical power
  • Replacement of stolen equipment
  • Losses caused by modifications to HughesNet equipment that are not performed by our authorized subcontractors, affiliates, or other agents
